Table Layout

In this tutorial we will be taking a look at how you can create a table layout using Dreamweaver. So launch Dreamweaver, and when you are displayed with the welcome screen, under the Create New column select HTML.

If you have difficulty with this, use the Menu Bar to create a new file. With the new file created, make sure you are working in Design View. Firstly, go to the Menu Bar and select Insert>Table. In the Table dialog, set the rows to 3, columns to 3, Table width to 800 pixels, border thickness to 1 and cell padding to 10. When you are done, click on OK.

You should now be able to see a table within your workspace.

The next step is to format the table so that is starts to take shape as a webpage. Our design is going to be whereby we have a header, footer, left navigation bar and main content area. In design view, place your cursor within cell one (upper left cell). Hold down your left mouse key and drag to the right to select the top three cells. If selected properly they should be highlighted black.

Right click inside one of these three cells, and from the menu select Table>Merge Cells.
